We all know how good the sun feels when it shines on our skin, now your body can benefit from light energy that penetrates below the skin and stimulates the repair of damaged cells. Light Therapy, also known as Low Intensity Laser, is a safe, non-invasive, drug-free therapy that penetrates deep below the surface of your skin to stimulate healing within your tissues and cells while also greatly reducing inflammation and pain. This state of the art technology can be used on patients of all ages and, unlike some modalities, can be safely used directly over joints and plastic/metal implants.

Light therapy has many applications and can benefit a wide range of patients. Research shows that it increases circulation, reduces swelling, stimulates nerve function, strengthens and repairs bone and soft tissue, increases mobility and muscle function and reduces or eliminates acute and chronic pain.

Conditions that can benefit from low intensity laser treatment include arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, bone fractures, wounds, and pain from joint replacements, tendonitis, and muscle and ligament strains.

Laser treatment is relaxing and pain-free. Sessions are usually about 15 minutes in duration and results are often felt after just one treatment.

Sue Underhill is a physiotherapist and owner of Maximum Physiotherapy which now offers low intensity laser therapy. (705) 444-3600
