What Are Custom Orthotics?
Custom orthotics in Collingwood are corrective devices worn inside the shoe that help to put the foot and ankle in proper alignment – this can assist the muscles, tendons, and bones of your feet and lower legs to function optimally.
When appropriately prescribed, custom orthotics can:
- decrease pain, not only in the foot but in other parts of the body such as the knee, hip and lower back
- provide support and stability to the arch
- improve the overall quality of life
How Are Custom Orthotics Made In Collingwood?
While orthotics can be made by several different processes, at Maximum Physiotherapy we take an impression of the client’s foot using impression foam and send it to a laboratory with the physiotherapist’s directions for correction.
At the lab, pedorthists/orthotists work with technicians to pour plaster into the mold, and when it hardens it perfectly reproduces the bottom of the individual’s foot.
Once a reproduction of the individual’s foot is made, the team then uses the physiotherapist’s directions to custom-make a device to meet the client’s specific needs.
Before booking your consultation, ensure that you check your coverage – we are dispensers of custom orthotics.
Are Orthotics Covered by Insurance Plans?
Some private insurance plans may cover the cost of custom orthotics. It is best to check with your insurance provider to see if you are eligible for coverage.
Do I Need a Prescription for Orthotics in Ontario?
Your insurance company may require a prescription from a physician in order to obtain custom foot orthotics. We do not require a prescription.
